If the Lamborghini Huracán’s appearance comes across as a little tame and benign to some, here’s the more chivalrous one – the open topped Spyder version. With the roof chopped off, a lightweight, electro-hydraulic fabric roof takes its place, which, available in three different colors- black, brown and red, can be lowered with a push of a button in 17 seconds and up to a driving speed of 50km/h.
The new Lamborghini Huracán Spyder LP 610-4 will cost 186,450€ (about INR 1.4 Crores) in Europe, with deliveries starting in the Spring of 2016. An Indian launch is also expected sometime in 2016. The Huracán coupe starts at INR 3.43 Crores (ex-showroom Delhi). Competition will come from the recently unveiled Ferrari 488 Spider.
The 5.2-litre, naturally aspirated V10 engine, good for 610 bhp, is retained from the coupe, and is shared with the new Audi R8 as well. A specimen of a dying breed, the screaming motor, unruffled by the lack of turbochargers, propels the Spyder from zero to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and onto a top speed of 324km/h. The engine also features the latest technical updates, including the ‘cylinder-on-demand’ function combined with a ‘stop start’ system. Lamborghini also claims an updated setup for the electronically controlled all-wheel drive system.
